LNT Group founder appointed Yorkshire amabassador

YORKSHIRE entrepreneur and businessman Lawrence Tomlinson has been appointed as an official ‘Patron’ for Yorkshire.

The title was awarded to the LNT Group founder by Gary Verity, chief executive of the region’s official tourism agency Welcome To Yorkshire.

The patronage scheme was set up earlier this year to develop an exclusive list of ambassadors from the county who will fly the flag for the region’s tourism industry, which is worth £6.3bn to the Yorkshire economy.

Patrons include Yorkshire Cricket Club’s Michael Vaughn, Phillip Meeson, chief executive of Jet 2, the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu and The Hon. Simon Howard of Castle Howard.

Mr Tomlinson is one of the region’s leading businessmen having founded the Leeds-based LNT Group in 1990.

The group includes eight businesses spanning several different sectors including construction and motorsport and companies such as include Ginetta Cars and LNT Construction.

Mr Tomlinson’s latest care home operation Ideal Care Homes is set to employ a further 500 staff in the coming months.

The group recently secured a £67m development fund from various banking establishments to further develop the business.

Mr Tomlinson said of thne appointment: “Like all Yorkshire men I am incredibly proud of our unique county which combines outstanding natural beauty with the centres of commerce that we see in cities like Leeds and Sheffield.

“The tourism industry is essential to all businesses, my own included, and I look forward to promoting the county far and wide in 2010.”
