Morrisons adds former Coca-Cola boss to board

SUPERMARKET group Morrisons today appointed the former head of Coca-Cola in the UK as a non-executive director.

The Bradford-based group said that Penny Hughes, who is president of the Advertising Association and has recently joined the board of Royal Bank of Scotland, would take up her new role on January 1.

Ms Hughes, is currently also a non-executive director of Cable & Wireless and Home Retail Group and a trustee of the British Museum.

Her previous experience includes 10 years with Coca-Cola ultimately as president of Coca-Cola GB & Ireland and various non-executive roles including Body Shop International, Gap, Reuters, Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken, Trinity Mirror and Vodafone.
 
Sir Ian Gibson, chairman of Morrisons, said:  “I am pleased to be welcoming Penny Hughes to the group. Her extensive boardroom experience and business expertise will further strengthen our existing team.” 

Ms Hughes said: “I am looking forward to grocery retailing and to contributing to the success of Morrisons. I am delighted to be joining the Morrisons team.”
 
Morrisons also said today that Philip Cox, who joined the board as a non-executive director in April and chairs the audit committee, will become a member of the board’s remuneration committee.
