In Brief: LCF opens doors; KCom updates City and more

LAW firm Last Cawthra Feather opened its doors to the next generation of legal eagles after running a competition with Leeds Metropolitan University’s Law School.

Open to full and part time students, the LCF competition asked for a solution to a commercial dispute scenario.

The competition was won by Legal Practice Course (LPC) student Natalie Milnes.

Ms Milnes then spent one week with LCF at its new offices in Leeds city centre, and its Bradford base, where she gained experience shadowing the team.

KCom said today that it is trading in line with expectations and has won new contracts since announcing its results in May.

The telecommunications company will brief analysts today on its plans for the rollout of superfast broadband.

Kcom’s annual general meeting takes place on Friday.

Clarion's private client team YORKSHIRE-based Clarion is one of just five regional law firms nationwide to be shortlisted for an award by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).

The firm’s private client team has been put forward for UK and Ireland Regional Team of the Year in the STEP Private Client Awards 2011/12.

Sara Rogers, partner and head of Clarion’s private client practice, said: “Our growing team currently comprises eight dedicated lawyers who specialise in providing legal advice for older clients and their families, including wills and probate matters and tax planning, and we are one of the few firms locally to be able to provide expertise in contentious probate.”

A RECRUITMENT consultancy financially backed and endorsed by BBC Dragons’ Den star Peter Jones has opened an office in Leeds.

Focus Resourcing Office and Commercial, a division of Reading-based Focus Resourcing Group, aims to become preferred suppliers to many of the area’s leading organisations and SMEs.

The team will be offering both permanent, temporary and contract recruitment across a range of disciplines including sales and marketing, administration, secretarial, HR, finance, helpdesk, call centre and office management.

FOR the second year running Duraweld has been named in the The Sunday Times Best Green Companies list for its environmentally friendly business practices.

The company, a producer of customised presentation, packaging and printed stationery products, was ranked 28th out of 60 companies overall, a leap of 11 places on last year’s rank of 39.

Sales manager Angie Francksen said: “It is very rewarding to have our green initiatives and products recognised by such a prestigious organisation.

“We constantly strive to develop and maintain our position as a leader in employing environmentally friendly business practices and offering recycled product ranges to our customers, and this is reflected in our leaping up the list to position 28.”
