Zodion lights up for council

SOWERBY Bridge-based Zodion Lighting has completed a contract to supply Lancashire County Council with an energy saving lighting system.

Zodion’s innovative Vizion central management system uses wireless technology to monitor and control street lighting systems remotely resulting in considerable energy savings.

The council is the first in the country to install such a system, on a stretch of the M65 between junction 10 and 14.

Martin Dunwell, street lighting manager for Lancashire County Council, said: “LCC is committed to reducing energy consumption used in street lighting by 30% over the next five years and Zodion’s technology is helping us to achieve this target.”

The LCC engineer Jacqueline Walsh said: “We now have the capability to remotely dim the street lighting output on this stretch of the motorway by 50% between the hours of midnight and 6am without compromising road safety.”

Zodion is currently receiving support from the Manufacturing Advisory Service Yorkshire & Humber (MAS Y&H). MAS consultant Dean Morgan from MCCR Associates has been carrying out a strategic intervention with Zodion to identify business opportunities that can be gained through setting up an environmental management system.

Using methodology established through the Carbon Trust Mr Morgan is also focusing on introducing a carbon footprint measurement on one of the leading lighting products manufactured by Zodion.

Zodion has two distinct business units, Zodion Street Lighting Controls and LUMO Lighting which provides low voltage lighting for caravans, motor homes and commercial vehicles.
