African ‘talent tour’ great success says Yorkshire firm

YORKSHIRE-based people and organisational development consultancy Primeast is celebrating the success of a tour across southern Africa aimed at liberating talent.

Managers from the corporate, public and not-for-profit sector across Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Botswana were invited to take part in a series of talent liberation coaching sessions led by Harrogate-based Primeast on behalf of the British Council.

Talent liberation is a new form of development coaching, which encourages organisations to recognise talents that can be developed and used in their entire workforce, not just those who are being groomed for leadership.

The participants, who included managers selected through the British Council’s Management Express (MEX) programme, entrepreneurs and local artists, were encouraged to become more self-aware and focus on their own goals.

Across 11 full days and five evenings they learned to use trust as a key ingredient in achieving things within teams and took part in fun and challenging exercises including a memorable session under a tree in Molokodi National Park with two ostriches watching.

The workshops have proved to be so successful that a new round of sessions in other countries on the continent is already being planned.

Clive Wilson, head of talent liberation and deputy chairman at Primeast said: “These sessions have proved enormously stimulating for both our coaches and the participants.

“We were really privileged to be involved in liberating so much obvious talent which can be harnessed to help develop organisations in what are some of the world’s poorest countries.”

Along with discussing a second programme with the British Council Primeast is now in talks with the UN and a high profile embassy in Malawi about similar schemes.
