TOM Riordan, chief executive of Yorkshire Forward, is speaking at an event hosted by law firm Hammonds where he will outline what 2008 will mean for regeneration in Yorkshire and Humber.

The Regeneration Symposium, which is being held at the Metropole Hotel in Leeds at the end of February, will see guest speaker Mr Riordan address an audience of eminent property and construction players from across the UK.

The event itself will examine how the increasingly difficult economic outlook coupled with the increase in local, national and European legislation will impact on regeneration projects across the UK in 2008.

Mr Riordan, who has played a key role a number of the region's key regeneration projects, will be speaking alongside Tom Dobrashian from EC Harris.

Mr Dobrashian joined the Leeds office of the consultancy in December to lead the firm's regeneration work in the North.

He will speak on the subject of Public Private Partnerships in the context of regeneration.

Another speaker at the event will be Stuart Howie from PricewaterhouseCoopers who will be speaking on funding for the future.

Meanwhile the Hammonds speakers will include Penny Storey-Jewkes who will outline the challenges of developing a low carbon economy; Mark Simpson who will talk tax and; Ohad Soudry who will speak about EU State Aid and Procurement.

Hammonds' Built Environment Group, the hosts of the event, comprises its property, planning and construction, engineering and projects departments.

The team advises a number of the Yorkshire leading companies, institutions and public sector bodies, blending technical expertise with commercial acumen and a passion for client service.

Andrew Sprake, a Hammonds property partner and the key organiser of the event, said, “It is vital that we pool together our expertise at events like this so that we can work together to exploit the regeneration opportunities that exist within the UK. It is not only the role of local authority leaders; the private sector has a big part to play in promoting regeneration projects.”

Hammonds has advised on a number of key regeneration projects in the region including a wide range of property work from commercial property development, property investment and property finance and infrastructure projects.
