Charity Latest: RAM tracks riders’ success; Businesses come together for Cancer Research; and more

FOUR cyclists from Leeds successfully completed their marathon charity ride from the champagne bar Epernay in Leeds city centre to the French town of Epernay at the heart of the famous Champagne region, with the help of a Leeds-based vehicle tracking company.

Remote Asset Management (RAM) donated its technology to the team, which included Tom Hepworth, Epernay Leeds general manager, and Adi Zaimi of Brio Pizza at Thorpe Park.

RAM MD Chris McClellan said: “Our tracking technology is usually used for fleet vehicle management  but it also enables supporters following charity activities such as this to feel really involved by being able to see exactly where the cyclists are on their route.”

The seven day challenge raised £2000 for Meningitis UK.

Team from Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield take part in rowing challenge for Master Cutlers' charity challengeSEVEN trainees from law firm Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield took part in a 24-hour ‘row-a-thon’ in aid of the Master Cutler’s Challenge for charity.

The day-long stretch took place at the law firm’s Riverside offices on two rowing machines donated by Sheffield International Venue’s Ponds Forge Gym. Zarvin Vandrewala, David Withers, Paul Weston, Robert Foster, Debbie Laidlaw, Charlie Bell, and Jenny Barton rowed a total of 341km.

The annual Master Cutler’s Challenge, first ran in 2008, is one of the largest fundraising events in Yorkshire and calls for businesses, schools and colleges to come up with original and entrepreneurial ideas to convert the Master Cutler’s £50 investment into as much money as possible, which then goes to that year’s chosen charities.

This year, funds raised will go to improving the employment prospects of 1,000 young people within the Sheffield region, with a further donation being made to the Company of Cutlers’ Preservation Trust.
