ESTHER Kirwan has joined Clarion Solicitors as a senior associate to boost its growing team of intellectual property (IP) specialists.

ClarionESTHER Kirwan has joined Clarion Solicitors as a senior associate to boost  its growing team of intellectual property (IP) specialists.

Ms Kirwan trained with Eversheds before joining Lupton Fawcett in 2006 as senior associate specialising in contentious and non-contentious IP.

“Having worked with Esther before, I know that she will play a key role in building the reputation of our specialist IP service both by expanding our work for existing clients and also by helping us to win new clients,” said Leigh Martin, lead partner of Clarion’s IP division.

Clarion’s IP practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law including the identification, protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property as well as litigation and the resolution of intellectual property disputes. The department’s areas of expertise cover patents, designs, trade marks, passing off, copyright and the protection of confidential information.

HARROGATE-based dental supplier 1st Dental Laboratories has announced that its group technical director Bradley Moore has resigned from its board to pursue other interests.

Mr Moore has been a director of the company since 2000 before the Group listed on AIM.

His role will be taken by internal promotion.

Williamsons THE newly formed litigation department at Williamsons Solicitors has a new head.

Mandy Anfield will be running the department at the firm’s Hull office.

Ms Anfield has specialised in landlord and tenant disputes including evictions relating to anti-social behaviour, disrepair to properties, illegal eviction and boundary and access disputes.

Commercially Ms Anfield’s work covers advice and representation on injunctions, leases, recovery of rent, Inheritance Act claims, wills and breach of contracts.

Lowell GroupDEBT purchasing firm Lowell Group has recruited Paul Thomas from Capital One Bank as its head of external recoveries.

In his new role Mr Thomas is responsible for developing and managing the panel of debt collection agents (DCAs) Lowell has approved to undertake collections work on its behalf.

As well as monitoring collections performance, one of his key tasks will be to ensure the DCAs maintain strict operating standards imposed by Lowell to ensure regulatory compliance and the fair treatment of its customers.

Mr Thomas spent the last three years at Capital One as debt sale manager, managing the bank’s relationships with debt purchasers.

Andrew Bartle, Lowell Group’s chief executive, said: “We are delighted Paul has joined us and expect him to make a significant contribution to Lowell Group’s future success.”

CONSTRUCTION and property consultancy Cyril Sweett has announced the launch of its dispute resolution and contract advice service in the North with the appointment of new regional director Andrew Milburn and associate director Chris Hewkin.

Both recruits will be based in the Leeds office and will work on dispute resolution cases throughout the North.

Cyril SweettMr Milburn began his career as a quantity surveyor working for contractors focusing on constructing industrial, commercial, leisure facilities and high specification city centre projects.

In 2002 he specialised in dispute avoidance and resolution gaining a Masters in construction law and arbitration from Leeds Metropolitan University. He joined Leach Consultancy before taking up a position as a director at Hillcrest Construction Consultancy.

He has acted as advisor to main contractors, subcontractors and clients offering commercial management services or acting as advisor in a number of disputes including litigation, adjudication, mediation, expert determination and arbitration.

Cyril SweettMr Hewkin is a qualified chartered quantity surveyor with 17 years experience in the construction industry.

From a background of working for specialist refurbishment, masonry and fit-out contractors Mr Hewkin progressed from site-based project surveyor to managing surveyor. He has spent the last seven years working for consultants Armstrong Davis Associates, Blake Newport Associates and B&K (Leeds).
