Asda trims products after Slimming World legal action

Asda has removed its own range of slimming meals following a legal challenge from Slimming World.

The Leeds-based supermarket was forced to trim down its range of Slimzone products, which Slimming World said was “unlawfully” affiliated with its meal plan.

The Derbyshire company sells its own range of weight loss ready meals at Iceland. Asda launched its Slimzone products in January.

Slimming World accused Asda of trading on the back of the brand’s reputation, but Asda countered this by saying it was giving customers a cheaper choice.

An Asda spokesperson told the Daily Telegraph: “We take great pride in the integrity of the claims we make about our products.

“Recent information has come to light indicating that the method used by Slimming World to assess whether a ready-meal is free or not, surprisingly, is partly subjective and involves more than simply making food with free ingredients.

“Slimzone was always intended to bring more choice and lower prices to customers shopping for healthy frozen ready meals but because of this new information, we have chosen to remove the range while we consider the best option for our customers.”
