Profits double at Southerns

Andy Kendall-Jones of Southerns

Leeds-based Southerns Group, which has been shortlisted in TheBusinessDesk.com’s 2017 Business Masters Awards, has more than doubled pre-tax profits in a transformative year for the company.

For the year to 30 June 2016, Southerns made a pre-tax profit of £712,152, up from £289,438.

Revenues also increased from £10.2m to £17m.

The group praised a “strong year” for the business in the accounts, and said it would be continuing on its “aggressive growth plans” via organic and aquisitional growth.

Staff numbers also increased from 46 to 70 within the year.

The furnitures, fixtures and equipment business has had a busy year, acquiring and integrating Broadstock Office Furniture and Space Invader, a design agency with offices in Manchester and London.

SpaceInvader has now announced a Leeds office launch, and the combined group is looking at revenues of more than £40m, with staff numbers totalling 200.

Chief executive Andy Kendall-Jones has been on a one-man mission to expand the business after acquiring its Bolton-based namesake and consolidating the company in 2015.
