People: Law firm boosts business recovery and insolvency team; RSM promotes; and more

Corporate law firm Shulmans is strengthening its business recovery and insolvency team with an appointment and internal promotion.

Lucy Clark, who joined the firm in 2013, has been promoted to associate. Clark has specific expertise in investigatory work and asset realisation in complex bankruptcies, in addition to extensive knowledge of all matters relating to administrations, liquidations and voluntary arrangements.

Meanwhile, Josh Fielding has joined the team as an assistant solicitor. He graduated with distinction in his LPC at York’s University of Law and brings two years’ experience in personal and corporate insolvency matters.

Martin Athey

RSM has promoted Martin Athey to the position of financial due diligence director.

Athey will lead RSM’s due diligence team across Yorkshire and the North East, building on the firm’s existing presence in this market acting for a range of clients including acquisitive companies, private equity investors and funding institutions.

Athey has been an integral part of RSM’s corporate finance practice for over 10 years, most recently within the M&A team, advising mid-market businesses on acquisitions, disposals, MBOs, fundraising and strategy.

Stephen Green, RSM’s head of financial due diligence in the North, said: “Martin’s appointment will bring a balance to the team which will allow us to service the growing needs of our clients on both sides of the Pennines. As well as demonstrating our continued commitment to the Yorkshire and North East market place, this is an integral part of our wider growth plans for the team across the North.”

Katy Burgin and Hannah Berridge

South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire based Chartered Accountants and trust and estate practitioners Sutton McGrath Hartley has doubled the size of its wills and probate team.

Joining the team are Katy Burgin, solicitor and Hannah Berridge, associate legal executive.

The pair have been brought in to add further knowledge and skill sets to complement the existing team, and deal with increased workloads as a result of the firm’s marketing and business development drives.

The new recruits for Sutton McGrath Hartley will be based across the firm’s three offices in Sheffield, Rotherham and Chesterfield.
