Speculative 150,000 sq ft facility launched at £60m park

A 150,000 sq ft speculative logistics facility is to be built by developer db symmetry at its £60m Symmetry Park Junction.

Infrastructure works will also be undertaken at the site, off Junction 34 A1(M) Doncaster.

The 54-acre phase one site totals 721,000 sq ft of industrial space, which has the capacity to support nearly 1,000 jobs.

It forms part of 800,000 sq ft of speculative development, which db symmetry has committed to across the UK in 2017 with other sites in Swindon, Middlewich, Banbury and Bicester.

According to Savills’ latest UK warehouse survey, this figure equates to 21% of the total 3.8million sq ft of speculative development set to be delivered this year.

Simon Dixon, development director at db symmetry, commented: “We have identified strategic, well-connected sites throughout the UK, where there is a severe lack of logistics space available and in locations where we can work with proactive local authorities. Symmetry Park represents a huge opportunity to create a major logistics destination for this area. With planning now secured, we are now out to tender and aim to appoint a contractor in the coming weeks.”

David Armiger, director of Regeneration and Neighbourhoods at Bassetlaw District Council, said: “We look forward to the imminent start of infrastructure works that will pave the way for an estimated 950 jobs and the opportunities that this will provide for local people.
“The Council welcomes the fact that db symmetry has made a significant investment in Bassetlaw and we will continue to work with them on the delivery of this development.

“The site has excellent connectivity to some of the UK’s major road networks and sea ports and we hope that prospective logistics companies also recognize these benefits and decide to grow their business in North Nottinghamshire.”

Robert Whatmuff, director at Colliers International’s Leeds office, joint agents for the scheme with Savills and Dove Haigh Phillips, concluded: “db symmetry’s decision to spec build comes at a time when there is a strong level of demand but limited availability of Grade A stock. The building has been designed with great flexibility, allowing the 150,000 sq ft building to be extended up to 250,000 sq ft.”

The project team for the structure includes planners Lichfields; architect Kilmartin Plowman & Partners; Engineers Shepherd Gilmour; Infrastructure Couch Perry & Wilkes; project manager & QS Goodrich Consulting and environmental consultancy Penny Anderson Associates.
