Developers plan 2,000 jobs as part of Designer Outlet expansion

A major employment site being put forward for York’s Local Plan would create 2,000 jobs at the Designer Outlet, say developers Oakgate Group.

Oakgate has proposed plans for an expanded site next to the Designer Outlet, which include offices, business space and a 750 space car park.

The Oakgate Group has 79 acres of land either side of St Nicholas Avenue, the road leading to the Designer Outlet on which to build.

The development will be focused on the South side of the site, to ensure a 35 acre green corridor is maintained along the A64, it said.

Regeneris Consulting, CBRE and How Planning have been involved in the planning, which includes extensive road and transport improvements.

Richard France, managing director, of the Oakgate Group commented: “Our plans are at an early stage but we feel this could provide significant investment and jobs for York.

“We have a thriving City Centre, but a City the size of York needs to provide a choice of quality locations.

“Naburn is a successful existing shopping and leisure destination in its own right and we believe it would complement our proposals which would be attractive to both existing York based companies wishing to expand and to potential new firms looking to set up in the City. These plans will also complement the York Central plans in timing and flexibility.

“For the future comprehensive growth of York, it is vital to have office and commercial space – in a sustainable location – that can be developed and delivered quickly and to the highest standards, and our plans will do this.”
