Rugby league club York City Knights has appointed Garbutt + Elliott to provide accountancy and business services.

The York and Leeds-based accountancy practice has handled the club’s payroll needs since the beginning of 2017 and has now been appointed to deliver a range of services to support further development of the club.

The Knights were bought by sports management consultant, Jon Flatman, in December 2016 and he has ambitious plans to turn the club into York’s leading sports club on and off the pitch.

Construction of an 8,000-seat community stadium is set to start in October and the club is aiming to be a Championship Club within the next three years.

Garbutt + Elliott partner Jeremy Oliver said: “York City Knights have shown their commitment to the city and we are pleased to be working with them to fulfil their business aims. We are two significant organisations in York and it’s great to be working alongside the club in this exciting period of their development and we hope our appointment is the start of a long-term partnership.”

Andrew Jackson Solicitors has provided contractual advice to Blue Water Shipping A/S Denmark (BWS), a global provider of tailor-made transport and logistics solutions, for the construction of a gas pipeline project through the Baltic Sea in Russia to Germany.

Dominic Ward, partner and head of shipping and transport at Andrew Jackson, advised BWS on various contracts relating to the transport, handling and storage of 113,000 pipes required for the £40m Nord Stream 2 project.

Following an international tender process, BWS was awarded an element of the Nord Stream 2 contract by Wasco Coatings Germany GmbH  covering the sea transportation of pipes from Wasco’s coating facilities in Mukran, Germany and Kotka, Finland to storage yards in Karlshamn, Sweden and Hanko, Finland, comprising approximately 475 shipments by coaster vessels.

Kurt Skov, chief executive officer and founder of Blue Water Shipping said: – “We are very proud to have won this contract. Over the years, we have built a strong position as a specialist in managing and executing projects with logistical challenges and we are looking forward to the cooperation with Wasco and Nord Stream 2.

“The high quality advice and personal service that we have received from Dominic, and the rest of the Andrew Jackson team, has been second to none. He was able to negotiate successfully a range of contractual documents within tight timescales to achieve our goals.”

Blacks Solicitors has teamed up with the council run LGBT+ Hub to create a business alliance with the aim of supporting the community through corporate social responsibility work.

The alliance, which will launch in September, will pool the resources of private sector businesses throughout Leeds and aims to include financial support, legal advice, setting up charity events, social enterprises and providing public spaces for community group gatherings for the whole LGBT+ community.

Additional aims of the alliance will be to provide peer support to SMEs in Leeds as well as supporting third sector organisations who are also involved in LGBT+ community backing.

Rob Wilson, equality project manager for Leeds City Council, said: “Although we are still in the planning stages, this business alliance is already a very exciting prospect and one that will greatly benefit Leeds and the community as a whole.

“Blacks Solicitors has always been a fantastic advocate of the Leeds LGBT community and it has been a pleasure working with them on this. Once the alliance is live we are hoping that lots of businesses throughout Leeds will rally behind it and join us.”
