Planning submitted for West Yorkshire former Nestle site

Developers Castleford Riverside Regeneration have submitted an outline planning application for a major residential site at the former Nestle base.
The company along with consultancy HOW Planning has submitted plans to Wakefield Metropolitan Council for the site, which could deliver 1,400 new homes. Retail, offices and a hotel have also been included in the application.
The development aims to regenerate the former C6 works (which was used for chemical storage when it was owned by Hickson Chemicals trading as C6, before its closure in 2006) and Nestle site, demolishing existing buildings on the brownfield site, which sits within the Aire River Growth Corridor Housing Zone.
An outline planning application for the site was submitted in 2008, but stalled before it could be developed.
Nestle ceased trading on the site, adjacent to the Arriva Bus Depot, in 2013, according to reports from Wakefield Council.
Rhian Smith, senior planner at HOW Planning said: “The application site has been acknowledged as a key site for the wider regeneration of Castleford Town Centre and neighbouring residential area.
“It is ideally suited for the type of development being proposed and the plans put forward by our client will make a significant contribution to Wakefield’s housing growth target.”
Says David Frohnsdorff of Castleford Riverside Regeneration Ltd: “We believe the plans for this development will deliver much needed regeneration to this part of Castleford.
“There will be huge investment in the local economy and we believe the new population, which would be generated by the housing will benefit local businesses and services, positively impacting on the area for many years to come.”
HOW Planning worked with rCOH and Fore Consulting to develop the proposals.
