Law firm expands again with latest office launch

Michael McGarry

McGarry & Co Solicitors has announced the launch of an office in North Yorkshire.

The Leyburn office at 7 Railway Street will be led by James Fawcett, an associate solicitor, when it opens next month.

The launch is also a return to his roots for the firm’s founder Michael McGarry, who worked from 1997 as a legal executive for Johnsons solicitors between their Hawes and Leyburn Offices.

He qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and became a partner at Richard Johnson & Partners until 2009, and then set up his own company in 2010.

McGarry & Co also has offices in Barnard Castle, Hawes and Sedbergh, offering a variety of legal services, including family law, commercial and residential property conveyancing and general commercial law with a particular specialisation in agricultural and rural issues.

McGarry said: “With the closure of the previous law office here, we saw it as a perfect opportunity to return to clients both James and I know well. We offer a very personal service to our clients and are more than happy to visit them at their premises or homes to initially discuss their legal challenges – it’s maybe an old fashioned idea but we do believe in very high levels of service and want to get to know our clients so we can best advise them.

“The practice has been based upon our expertise in not only land, property, wills, probate and tax but also in general family and commercial law. We obviously have a particular interest in rural issues where our policy of going to see our clients rather than waiting for them to come to our offices has been very well received by busy clients – we provide a service and never forget our clients have a choice.”

“Whilst we already have many clients around Leyburn and the surrounding villages, an office here will enable us to give an even better personal service to both them and new clients. It’s an interesting time legally with a good deal of uncertainty about agricultural subsidies following the Brexit referendum and this year’s changes in Inheritance Tax creating new levels of relief to name but two current issues.”
