Monday Interview: Beth Gildersleve, Sky Betting & Gaming

After 12 years working at NHS Digital, Beth Gildersleve has embarked on a completely new challenge as head of technology within a Sky Betting & Gaming team which leads on app creation and delivery.

Gildersleve and her team, based in Wellington Place in Leeds, have end-to-end responsibility for the technology behind apps that are delivered to the company’s customers on demand. At present, there are around 16 apps the team have live and more projects are on the horizon.

“As a collective, the team is continually making sure that the technology is working correctly and that it’s all secure. What we deliver, along with third parties including software developers, must be of the highest quality,” said Gildersleve.

In this increasingly competitive working environment, it’s also about ensuring that products get to market in time, as well as looking at ways in which future technology and apps can be utilised keep up with evolving technology.

And it’s working in a fast-paced and innovative role that attracted Gildersleve to the job; which she has now been in for just over a month. In her last role, Gildersleve was working on mobile health apps for NHS Digital.

“It’s a complex working environment but there is huge scope to extend what we do even further. It’s about being able to deliver new tech in line with our customer needs,” she added.

“Coming into Sky Betting & Gaming, it’s clear to see the company has a big focus on innovation and I am enjoying learning all about the commercial environment we work within. It’s refreshing to work here.”

Gildersleve will be leading on the digital strategy for company and best practice – leading the company in the way in which it delivers modern digital apps quickly, for the right price, that have the highest performance and interactivity possible. She will also be taking part in an events programme where she will deliver topical items including digital product management and development.

The team work around the clock, as it’s imperative that the technology works when events such as sports games take place outside of normal working hours. As a lot of the work behind the apps is highly technical, Gildersleve will ensure her team don’t “burn out.” She added: “I will be focusing on resilience.”

Gildersleve, who lives in Wakefield and studied at Leeds Metropolitan University, said: “I am really looking forward to shaping what’s to come.”
