Construction company says cheers to Heineken contract

Yorkshire construction company Harris has started on site to deliver a £1.1 m contract for Europe’s biggest brewer Heineken UK.

The contract will see the firm create a super-strong structure that will support six giant fermenting vessels, which are amongst the largest in the world, at its Manchester brewery on Denmark Road.

The work is due to complete in November 2017.  The supporting structure will comprise 160 tonnes of steel and each of the six fermenting vessels at the brewery can hold around 450,000 litres during the brewing process.

Heineken is the UK’s leading cider and beer producer and is behind a range of iconic brands such as Strongbow, Bulmers, Heineken, Foster’s, Kronenbourg 1664 and Desperados, together with a full range of speciality brands.

Danny Mulqueen, managing director at South Elmsall based Harris, said: “Harris has established a strong reputation for successfully undertaking construction works, as well as installing and upgrading production equipment, within live manufacturing sites.

“This latest contract win underlines this and we are delighted to be working with Heineken on this structure which will ultimately help to increase productivity and efficiency throughout the brewery.”

Harris is a privately owned construction services business that provides new-build, refurbishment and specialist interior fit-out property solutions in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors throughout the UK.  The company has a turnover in excess of £50m and over 60 employees.
