£19m Bradford college gets the go ahead

A £19m sixth-form college for 1,200 students is to be built in the centre of Bradford.

A site in Nelson Street has been chosen for New College Bradford, which is set to open its doors in 2019. The new school will be run by a sixth form college sponsor, joining New College Doncaster and New College Pontefract which are part of the New Collaborative Learning Trust.

The centre aims to boost the quality and choice of post-16 options and offer young people in Bradford access to a wide range of A Levels.

Bradford Council carried out a review of post-16 education last year which identified the need for a small number of large sixth forms schools in key areas of demand, such as Bradford city centre.

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, of Bradford Council said: “We welcome this major investment into Bradford city centre. The site has excellent transport links and will be accessible to young people across our district. It will increase the footfall into our city and provide an excellent campus for young people to learn in.”
