People: Irwin Mitchell hires from Gordons; Dow Schofield Watts poaches PwC executive; and more

James Laycock has joined Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth in Leeds from Gordons.

His expertise lies in will validity claims, multi-million pound estate disputes, mismanagement allegations against trustees and executors, and financial provision matters for a wide range of clients including families, trustees and private individuals.

Laycock’s experience in commercial litigation also means he is adept at advising on disputes involving family businesses.

Shahid Hussain has joined Dow Schofield Watts Transaction Services as an executive at its Yorkshire & North East office.

Hussain joins from PwC in Yorkshire, where he spent six years working on the audits of a variety of blue-chip corporates in the region and where he qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant in 2015.

At Dow Schofield Watts, he will be providing due diligence services for private equity and businesses embarking on mergers and acquisitions and other corporate deals.

The Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa has made two senior appointments following a record financial start to the year.

The North Yorkshire hotel and spa has appointed Jamie Adamson as operations manager, while Colin Blackett has been appointed to the board as financial director.

The Coniston has already seen strong growth in the international market which has put it on course for a financial year of £7.9m, a 10 per cent increase on last year.

Blackett said: “We are planning a number of further investments at The Coniston and it’s great to be spearheading the developments with an experienced and talented team of directors. We have seen significant growth in terms of occupancy rates and the market continues to grow.
