Demolition of historic theatre gets underway

The demolition of the Futurist Theatre in Scarborough is underway after a campaign to save the historic venue was unsuccessful.
Contractors have moved on to the site to begin demolishing the 100-year-old building, BBC News reported.
It comes after a long-running dispute over the theatre’s future during which campaigners sought a High Court intervention which in the end was unsuccessful.
Scarborough Borough Council agreed in January to spend £4m knocking down the theatre and stabilising the cliff behind it.
It is expected to take a year for the demolition to be completed.
