Yorkshire law firm Gordons has increased pre-tax profits by 25% to more than £6m on a turnover of £16m.

For the year ended 31 March 2018, Gordons’ turnover increased by 4% to £16m, up from £15.4m in the previous year, whilst the firm’s cash position doubled from £1.6m to £3.2m.

This follows 2017 in which the firm’s pre-tax profits and revenues dipped as it adjusted to “significant changes.”

Over the 12- month period, Gordons secured a variety of significant new business wins including online electrical goods retailer AO.com and discount convenience grocery brand Heron Foods. The year also saw significant increased investments in people, office improvements and IT.

Gordons managing partner, Paul Ayre, said: “We’re really pleased with our progress in the past year which shows the strength of the Gordons brand and business. The results have been driven by the successful implementation of a clear business development strategy. This sees us having much more dialogue with existing clients and talking to prospective clients who identify with our straightforward, quality approach.

“We now have a really good team across the firm and we work in a coordinated, joined-up fashion. Our clients tell us that this is distinctive and that it makes things so much easier for them.”

Gordons has offices in Leeds and Bradford and employs 196 people. Clients include retailers B&M, Iceland and Morrisons; construction and high-performance materials manufacturer Saint Gobain; and international brewers Molson Coors.
