Casino group announces closure of Bradford branch

A national casino chain has announced the closure of its Bradford branch due to declining footfall.

Based at the Leisure Exchange in Bradford city centre, the site currently employs 69 people, who are all now in consultation over their roles.

Debbie Husband, national operations director for Grosvenor Casinos, said: “Admissions have been in long term and consistent decline and we are no longer operating profitably. This decision has not been taken lightly and club closures are always a last resort, however Grosvenor Bradford has been challenged for some time and has reached a point where it is no longer viable to continue trading.”

Grosvenor Casinos is part of the Rank group, which also runs Mecca Bingo. The listed group reported in its annual results to June 30 2017 revenue of £754m and pre-tax profits of £79m.

Husband added: “We will be working with all our team members in Bradford to help them at this difficult time; including investigating other potential opportunities within the Rank Group.

“We have many customers who will share our sadness with this news and we do have Grosvenor Huddersfield and Grosvenor Leeds available to visit.”

Rank Group employ around 11,000 people, including around 60 people at its customer services hub in Sheffield.
