117 jobs at risk as aerosols manufacturer announces closure plans

A firm which manufactures aerosols has announced plans to close its Hull site, putting 117 jobs at risk.

McBride, the manufacturer of personal care, skincare and toiletry products for retailers, said it was proposing to cease UK Aerosols production at its Hull McBride site due to poor financial performance.

The firm said: “In recent years, the financial performance of the Group’s European Personal Care & Aerosols (PCA) business has deteriorated, and the aerosols business in particular has experienced extreme margin pressures, with substantial operating losses expected for the financial year ending 30 June 2018.

“The Group’s half year results statement in February 2018 indicated that restoring the performance of the PCA division was a top priority. After an extensive review of possible options for the aerosols business segment, the Group is now proposing the closure, subject to consultation, of its UK aerosol production facility in Hull with the potential loss of 117 jobs.”

Under the proposals, closure would be completed in spring 2019.

“McBride has enjoyed a long history in Hull and the Group does not underestimate the effect of this proposal on our colleagues, their families and the wider community,” added McBride.

Consultation with employees has now begun.
