People: New head of consulting at KPMG; YCCC announce new chairman; IP partner at Clarion; Head of Visit York appointed; and more

KPMG has announced the appointment of Annette Barker as head of consulting in the north.

With over 23 years’ experience in the profession, Barker has covered a range of roles across audit, transaction services and forensic accounting.

She has experience across all key sectors, and leads on numerous multi-disciplinary consulting assignments including regulatory compliance, fraud, bribery and corruption, money laundering and contract compliance and investigations.

Barker plays an active role in the Northern business community, delivering presentations to audiences including litigation and corporate lawyers, corporates and deal-makers on the likes of valuations in a dispute situation, the role of an expert witness, business interruption and professional negligence claims.

The Yorkshire CCC Board, who met yesterday, have unanimously agreed that Robin Smith will be its new chairman, succeeding Steve Denison who resigned last week.

Smith was previously chairman of the club from 2003 to 2006.

Sue Streatfield has been appointed as a partner within Clarion’s expanding intellectual property (IP) practice, just two years after joining the firm.  Clarion has one of the largest teams of specialist IP lawyers in a full service law firm in the North.

With over 17 years’ experience in IP law, Streatfield’s career includes spending three years with a large Australian commercial law firm as well as having worked for Eversheds. She joined Clarion from Bond Dickinson’s IP team, where she worked for seven years before joining Clarion in December 2015.

Streatfield has experience of advising a wide range of clients, from small start-up businesses to large international corporations, on all aspects of IP law, including litigation, research and development agreements, licences and assignments.

She has particular expertise in pharmaceuticals, life sciences and chemicals, and has played a key role in growing Clarion’s specialism in these areas.  Streatfield also advises clients in the engineering, digital, university and retail sectors.

Paul Whiting has been appointed Head of Visit York for the destination management organisation, replacing Sally Greenaway, who is leaving Visit York in early August for a new role.

Currently marketing ,anager of The JORVIK Group of Attractions, Whiting led the marketing team who delivered the multi-award-winning ‘Return of the Vikings’ campaign to re-launch JORVIK Viking Centre in April 2017. He worked previously for Visit York from 2009 to 2013.

Steve Brown, managing director of Make It York, said: “In the 5 years since leaving Visit York, Paul has developed into an incredibly strong marketing manager in the heritage and tourism sector, as well as becoming  professionally accredited in marketing. His experience and his understanding of the tourism sector in York will allow him to hit the ground running and continue to promote the world-class tourism offer here in York.”

Whiting said: “This is an incredible opportunity to continue promoting York to the world.
