TRAVEL company Holidaybreak, the European specialist holiday and educational activity group, today said it was performing in line with expectations helped by trips to the capital.

The group runs Hotel Breaks, based in York, which offers short holidays in the UK and on the Continent.

Hotel Breaks sales were up 8% on the same period the previous year following strong demand for trips to London, boosted by exhibitions such as Tutankhamun and China Warriors and theatre shows such as Joseph and Dirty Dancing.

In an interim management statement in advance of its annual general meeting today, Holidaybreak said group sales were 6% ahead of last year.

It said the launch of its education division had given the company “additional resilience in what may be a more difficult consumer environment”.

The division, formed following the acquisitions of PGL and school trip specialist NST last year, now accounts for almost a quarter of group revenues.

Holidaybreak said it would continue to review potential acquisitions and organic investment proposals to expand its portfolio.

Holidaybreak expects to announce its interim results for the six months to March 31 on May 15.
