100 Club: Helen Brown from Weightmans

Helen Brown is a partner and head of the Leeds office at law firm Weightmans. She is a member of the Leeds Community Foundation’s 100 Club, a patronage scheme for individuals who are motivated to make a difference in Leeds.

Here, she discusses what he loves about the city, and why she’s involved in the foundation.

What is your favourite thing about Leeds?

Leeds is a vibrant city with a real buzz and an exciting place to work. It is resilient and commercially  ambitious yet it is committed to enriching the lives of those that live within it. As a Leeds 2023 business partner we are proud to play our part.

What is the worst thing about the city?

Being such a fan of the city I struggle with being critical. However, we have to accept that Leeds profile as a city both nationally and internationally is not where it should be. We need to shout louder about the cities achievements and all the good work that is done here.

Why Weightmans decided to support Leeds Community Foundation’s 100 Club?

As a firm we are passionate about playing our part to help the city prosper as a business hub and as a place to live and grow. Leeds Community Foundation does some incredible work with the vulnerable, marginalised or disadvantaged and we want to support them in helping to make a difference to peoples’ lives.

What community issues are important to you?

Homelessness, LGBTQ+ causes and social mobility are all issues we feel strongly about at Weightmans and form a core part of our CSR and fundraising programme. Everyone should feel safe to be who they are, supported through difficult times,  and that they have the tools to improve their lives or the lives of others.
