Jewellery manufacturer sees export sales rise 150% to record high

Jewellery manufacturer Bailey of Sheffield has reported record export sales for the year with a 150% increase in overseas shipping to 30 countries worldwide.

Based in the listed Portland Works, Bailey of Sheffield is set to see export sales for 2018 hit around £45,000 compared with the previous year’s total of approximately £25,000.

The company is the only manufacturer to create stainless steel bracelets. Forged with 316L stainless steel, the bracelets are available in a range of colours and finishes, created to the customer’s own personal and bespoke style.

Adele Bailey of Bailey of Sheffield said: “We are very proud of our success since launching in 2016, representing Sheffield and our steel industry all over the world. This month we had a first purchaser from Tunisia – with the biggest export market for the jewellery currently being the USA, followed closely by Australia and Canada.

“Without question, it is the people behind the company that give our jewellery its distinction. From the idea and inspiration for an enduring piece of jewellery; precious, personal, and hardwearing, it is our team of innovative designers and craftspeople that bring the aesthetic, the crafting, the approach to design and the making that can only have come from people schooled in a city forged in steel.”

Bailey of Sheffield works with higher educational institutions and research centres to develop the bracelet’s technology.

Sheffield Hallam University assisted Bailey of Sheffield with the clasp design. The Bailey of Sheffield team have also worked alongside the Sheffield University with the initial destruction testing of the bracelets and clasp components.

Bailey of Sheffield have recently announced a collaboration with the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) regarding materials and product development for 3D printing.
