Inaugural Ilkley Half Marathon gets start date
The inaugural Ilkley Half Marathon is ready, set and go for a road race on 14 July 2019 that will take competitors through the centre of Ilkley and around the surrounds of Wharfedale.
With the event proceeds going to charity, organisers Ilkley and District Round Table are aiming to raise over £30,000 for local good causes.
The race, which has seen TheBusinessDesk.com come on board as the media partner, presents an exciting opportunity for businesses to be associated with an event sure to draw significant interest from the community.
Nearly half of the 2,000 running places were snapped up within ten days of the event’s launch, demonstrating the appeal of the event.
Nick Helliwell, race director and representative of Ilkley Round Table, said: “We are delighted to be able to announce the very first Ilkley Half Marathon. Our town has a growing reputation for superb sporting events such as the Tour de France and we can’t wait to welcome runners to our event.
“We have supported the development and enhancement of many sporting facilities in the area due to our annual Ilkley Beer Festival and this event gives us the opportunity to help more organisations than ever before.”
John Grogan, MP, Keighley, added: “The Ilkley Half Marathon will be a great addition to the local calendar of sporting events. Ilkley Round Table are to be commended for bringing this idea to fruition and Bradford Council for supporting them. I myself am considering running my first half marathon for over a decade!”
Ilkley Round Table have raised in excess of £500,000 in the last ten years through a variety of events most notably with the now Internationally renowned Ilkley Beer Festival, now in its 12th Year.
The beer festival sees much of the Leeds professional market head up the Wharfe Valley for the festival in early February every year. The waiting list to sponsor the beer festival is currently three years and we hope the 1/2 Marathon will give other business the opportunity to support this charity event in the region.
