Record passenger numbers sees turnover hit £31m at Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport has seen revenues surpass the £30 mark in its first full year since being acquired by Australian investment firm AMP Capital.

Sydney-headquartered AMP Capital purchased 100% of the West Yorkshire airport from private equity firm Bridgepoint back in October 2017.

For the twelve months ending 31 March LBA reported revenues of £31.5m, which is an 11% rise on the £28.3m achieved at the same time the previous year. The airport also reported a 21% increase in EBITDA to £9.7m.

During this period, LBA welcomed a 10% rise in passengers which resulted in a record 4.1 million people passing through the airport. This was achieved through 14 airline partners flying to 72 different destinations.

Despite cancelling a service to Chambery, the airport launched additional services to Thessaloniki, Almeria, and Wroclaw, and increased volumes on existing services.

LBA noted that Jet2.com, Ryanair and Flybe were the airlines that delivered the bulk of the growth.

The airport said that passenger numbers for the year ahead are “expected to be broadly in line with those delivered” in 2017/18.

This year was also a period of investment for LBA, which carried out a multi-million-pound redevelopment of the entire departure lounge with additional seating plus a range of new shops, cafes, restaurants, bar areas and airport lounges.

In December the airport also secured approval for a two/three storey extension to the main airport terminal building, which will provide larger immigration and baggage reclaim areas, improved departure gate facilities, additional retail and food and beverage outlets and additional free seating. Construction work is expected to commence this Spring.
