Surgical Innovations announces contingency plan update for no-deal Brexit

Leeds-based Surgical Innovations has announced a contingency plan for the possibility of the UK leaving the EU without a solid withdrawal agreement.

On 15 February, BSI Netherlands confirmed the reassignment of all of the company’s product certification from BSI Notified Body 0086 (UK) to the Netherlands Notified Body 2797.

Surgical Innovations, which designs and manufactures technology for minimally invasive surgery, recently reported revenues of £11m for the full year following “significantly stronger” trading in the second half of 2018.

In November last year, the listed firm also announced the signing of a three year UK distribution agreement with DistalMotion SA, a Swiss manufacturer of a new surgical robot.

Nigel Rogers, executive chairman of SI Group, said: “Amidst speculation in the weekend press of possible disruption to the approvals status of medical devices across the EU following a no-deal Brexit, it is reassuring that we have taken this important precaution.

“Our first priority is to protect the integrity of our regulatory approvals for the EU market, and this will serve to reassure our distribution partners and end users of continuity in coming months.”
