Ale provider secures 10-year lease on 62,500 sq ft premises

Wetherby-based ale provider Beer Hawk has secured a 10-year lease on a Leeds warehouse to support its further growth.

The firm has taken 62,500 sq ft of a newly constructed unit which is part of the phase one development at Towngate Link in Leeds. It will act as an additional site for the Wetherby-based firm, which stores and distributes over 1,000 beers across the country.

Established seven years ago, Beer Hawk was formed by its co-founders Mark Roberts and Chris France, with the aim of offering speciality bottled ales from artisan breweries all over the world – from Germany and New Zealand to Belgium and Norway.

Beer Hawk will greatly benefit from the newly constructed warehouse, which includes a working height of 12 metres, two-storey grade A office accommodation – with the option to install a further floor – and a large 40-metre-deep secure concrete yard.  In addition, a full CCTV system has been installed to further improve security. The space is ideally suited to the company’s operations and presents a high circulation efficiency.

Commercial and industrial lettings specialist Towngate secured a new 10-year lease.

Towngate’s property manager, Tom Lamb, said: “We are confident that the unit will work extremely well for Beer Hawk, as it is located on Leeds’ most established industrial estate, which is close to the motorway network. The configuration of the site – including dock and ground level loading facilities – will cater to all its needs.

“I am delighted that one of our new units will be occupied by Beer Hawk, and we’re excited to have this brand as part of our client portfolio.”

Beer Hawk’s head of operations, Martin Rourke, added: “Leeds was a primary focus for us, as it provides improved transport and staffing infrastructure, as well as enhanced welfare and leisure facilities. The site exceeds our expectations and certainly meets Beer Hawk’s vision for future growth.”

Phase one at Towngate Link also included the construction of TL1, a 55,000 sqft high bay warehouse, which has also now been let. Due to the success of the first development, the construction of Phase Two is due to commence during June 2019. This will comprise of further 55,000 and 15,000 sq ft properties with completion expected early 2020.

Towngate was represented by partner at Knight Frank, Iain McPhail and director at Gent Visick, Paul Mack. Beer Hawk was represented by Owen Holder of Holder & Co.
