£250,000 invested in expanding self storage facilities across Yorkshire

A self storage business has invested £250,000 in expanding its warehouses in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield.

McCarthy’s Storage World is adding a further 10,000 sq ft of storage space across the three Yorkshire sites, equating to an extra 200 individual units.

The space includes a range of internal warehouse-style units, but also the first ‘drive-up’ units at the Wakefield site.

Mike McCarthy, managing director of McCarthy’s, said: “Demand is increasing as more and more people are seeing how self storage can be of benefit in a range of situations. For personal reasons, people often use self storage to manage big changes in their lives.

“That might be moving house, undertaking building work or renovations, or if there’s been a separation or death in the family, when additional space can be needed quickly. But we have also seen an increase in businesses using self storage – for example eBay traders and ‘pick and pack’ companies trading on the internet.

“Having a flexible space, which comes at a set, all-inclusive fee is appealing, as is knowing they can scale up or down the size of their unit as they need to, to meet business demand.”

Storage units ranging from the size of an old telephone box (16 sq ft) to 500 sq ft are available at the three McCarthy’s sites, along with larger, bespoke units which can be created to order.
