My Yorkshire: Penny Emmett, Cranford Group

Penny Emmett is chief customer officer at Yorkshire-based assured resource provider, Cranford Group.

Where do you live/where are you from?

I’m originally from Staffordshire, but I’ve lived in Heckmondwike for over 30 years now, and I’m currently preparing to move to Homfirth.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Howarth – I like the high street, with its old cobbles and lovely shops. I also enjoy the walks around the area – plus it’s steeped in Brontë history!

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

The Yorkshire three peaks – although I’ll admit, I’m not fit enough at the moment!

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

The Man Behind The Curtain certainly offered a meal with a difference – beautiful food, and very quirky.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

I can be very direct – possibly slightly too much!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

Emley Moor mast – located in Huddersfield – is 21 metres taller than The Shard.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

The poet, Ted Hughes. The dark and brooding nature of his work is right up my street.

First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkshire folk)

Trackless trams in Bradford – it was the first place I’d ever seen them.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

Pontefract cakes – horrible!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

I’d steal cheese from Cheddar – it’s one of my favourites.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

Wensleydale cheese! And Tetley beer.
