Expanding caravan maker expects £12m turnover this year

Family-run business Yorkshire Caravans has announced expansion plans and the launch of new storage facilities with funding from the Barclays Northern Powerhouse fund.
The company is headquartered in Doncaster Road, Bawtry, and not only sells caravans and awnings but at least 3,500 other products, including chairs, tables, storage cupboards, security devices, towing mirrors and many more camping related items.
The money from Barclays has enabled the firm to convert an adjacent nine-acre field into storage.
Jon Goulden, Managing Director, said: “The staycation trend seems to be growing at pace and with this the need for safe storage for caravans and motorhomes.
“Our customers need to know their vehicles are secure and we now have the capacity to store over 1,000 caravans – one of the largest facilities in the North.
“We’re also very proud to offer on-site everything a caravan owner needs with our indoor showroom and store.
“The new funding from the Barclays Northern Powerhouse fund means we’re bucking the retail trend and growing and contributing to the local economy.”
Yorkshire Caravans employs over 50 staff in South Yorkshire and its turnover this year is expected to reach £12m.
Christopher Rushworth, Barclays Relationship Director for the South Yorkshire & Humber region, put together the funding for the deal.
He said: “Like many of our customers, Yorkshire Caravans decided the time was right for further investment to grow the company.
“The money from our Northern Powerhouse fund will enable Jon and his team to achieve their growth ambitions and provide them with the flexibility to grow their customer base and maximise sales.”
Yorkshire Caravans was established in 1926 by petrol filling station owner Percy Smith, who allowed a customer to store their caravan on his site for a couple of weeks.
The caravan created so much interest Percy decided to contact the manufacturer and secured a deal to supply him with new caravans to sell.
