Listed waste group delays £34m landfill tax payments

Wetherby waste management group Augean has successfully delayed any payments of its HMRC landfill tax bills until a tribunal concludes.

The listed firm, which was handed down bills totalling £34.7m across its Augean North and Augean South businesses in April, this morning said it had “received confirmation that hardship has been granted for the assessments received by Augean South.”

It received a hardship notification for Augean North Limited in February.

Augean added: “No cash payment will therefore be required to be paid by the Company before the conclusion of any tribunal.

“As previously announced, we maintain our position that we have correctly collected and paid the appropriate landfill tax, based on legal advice received and will robustly defend against the assessments.”
