165 jobs at risk as manufacturing facility is set to close

A personal care firm which took over the running of a Bradford manufacturing facility last year is to close, with up to 165 jobs at risk.

Royal Sanders is to transfer its manufacturing to its Preston plant as the Bradford site is “not sustainable”. A total of 165 workers are affected by the move.

Staff have been offered the chance to relocate but it is understood that a large number of the 165 staff will not choose this option and therefore will be made redundant.

Royal Sanders, which has operations in The Netherlands and Belgium, confirmed the closure to TheBusinessDesk.com. A spokesman said: “The indication is that the closure will take place in the next six months.  We have a second site in Preston and production will move there.”

The spokesman added: “The business in Bradford wasn’t sustainable. Since buying the business in November 2018, we have taken positive steps to correct that. While there have positive steps taken and co-operation with staff, the steps are not sufficient to make it sustainable.”

Staff are now in a second phase of consultation.

Royal Sanders Group bought McBride’s European personal care liquids business for £12.5m in November last year. McBride closed its Hull personal care manufacturing site this year, with the loss of 117 jobs.
