City printing firm reaps rewards of move to new base

One of Sheffield’s longest established printers which recently moved locations has expanded its operations by adding a stationery shop to its premises.

Mensa Printers moved to the corner of Abbeydale Road and Aizlewood Road from its previous location on Arundel Lane in the city centre, where it had been since 1988.

The family-owned company, which was launched in 1956, has grown in recent years, taking on more staff and increasing its capabilities with significant investment in digital technology.

The relocation has allowed Mensa to create a shop front on Abbeydale Road, from where it now sells a variety of stationery goods.

Business owner, George Dawn, said: “Even though we are in the early days of having moved in, we are already seeing substantial benefits, which we hope customers will quickly see for themselves.

“Our workflow is now far more streamlined with everything on the same floor laid out to a lean working strategy, with jobs moving from one station to another far smoother. This means orders are being completed far quicker.

“We have a quite capacious customer car park, which is a massive bonus, but the addition of the stationery shop is a real shift in direction, and one that could lead to us taking on more staff in time.

“It used to be quite traditional for printers to also sell stationery, and while we are totally in the digital age in the printshop, Mensa has traditional ethics at its core. So this move feels right and proper for the company.”

Mensa Printers employs seven members of staff, offering a wide range of print and bind services.
