People: New Head of Barclays Corporate appointed; Investment manager added to team; and more

Barclays has appointed John Laud as the new Head of Barclays Corporate covering North and West Yorkshire.
Based in Leeds, Laud will head the team that serves the diverse needs of business customers around the North and West Yorkshire region. Responsibilities will include managing a team of Relationship Directors and their dedicated support teams, who provide banking services for business customers typically with a turnover of in excess of £6.5m.
Laud brings with him nearly 30 years banking experience, which will benefit business customers and his team alike and has spent recent years looking after a portfolio of companies in the bank’s Eastern region. He has developed a deep understanding of the banking needs of manufacturing companies and the food and drink sector.
Laud said: “Yorkshire is a vital business market for Barclays and I am hugely proud to be working with such a dedicated, energetic and highly professional team. Our customers tell us that they value our service and support and that the value of our relationship model has been proven in more volatile economic times.

Currently living near Cambridge, John, Lisa, and their two children are relocating back to Yorkshire after 21 years away.

Walker Crips Investment Management, part of national investment and wealth management group Walker Crips, has appointed Rachel Blythe as an investment manager to strengthen the firm’s York-based team.

Blythe joins Walker Crips from Progeny Asset Management, a financial advice and legal solutions firm she co-founded in 2016. She started her career at Redmayne Bentley working across its corporate actions, ISAs, compliance and investment teams.

She recently achieved Chartered Wealth Manager status and has been instrumental in the development, selection process and strategies of the portfolios under her management, including an award-winning AIM portfolio. At Walker Crips her focus will be on helping clients grow and preserve their wealth for future generations.

Leeds-based global brand design consultancy, Elmwood, has hired Ian Schofield as a Non Executive Director to help advise clients as well as to guide its own sustainability agenda.

Previously at Iceland Foods, where he led the charge of targeting plastic-free packaging by 2023 and now an independent consultant, Schofield is seen as one of the UK’s leading experts in the field of packaging reuse and recycling in particular, regularly advising MEPs and as regular commentator in the media.

He said: “I am delighted to join Elmwood to help them guide clients in this hugely important field. I have always admired their forward thing approach to brand building.”

Listed Wakefield-headquartered video games developer Team17 has announced the appointment of Martin Hellawell as a Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

Hellawell has a wealth of experience across the capital markets arena with particular focus on both technology and high growth businesses.

He is currently Chairman of Softcat, a provider of IT infrastructure products and services.

He joined Softcat in 2006 as Managing Director. During his tenure, he guided Softcat through a significant period of growth culminating in its successful IPO in November 2015.

Prior to Softcat, he worked at Computacenter, where he was part of the team that oversaw Computacenter’s IPO in 1998. He was recently named as Chairman of Raspberry Pi Trading Limited.

Hellawell will sit on the Group’s audit, remuneration and nomination committees.
