League table showcases Yorkshire’s fastest-growing tech companies

Five Yorkshire-headquartered companies appear in this year’s Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain’s private technology, media and telecoms (TMT) companies with the fastest-growing sales.

The five firms based in this county – compared to six named in the high profile league table last year – have grown their sales by an average of 74% a year over three years to a total of £127m. Together they now employ 580 people.

These businesses include smart energy monitoring business Chameleon Technology. Ranked 33 in the table and based in Harrogate, it has installed more than 4m smart in-home displays in UK homes since it was started in 2010. Boosted by the UK government’s smart energy rollout, sales for the firm hit £21.8m last year.

Featuring for the first time this year and ranked 91 is Leeds-based Pharmacy 2U, which has worked with the NHS to create software that allows patients to request repeat prescriptions electronically. It has raised £58m in total from G Square Capital and the growth-capital firm BGF. Sales reached £61m this year.

The other Yorkshire firms in the table are: Hessle-based Cloud services provider Giacom, ranked 47, with sales of £25.1m and annual sales growth of 87% over three years; Leeds-based workforce management software company BigChange, ranked 59, with sales of £11.2m (77% sales growth); and Ilkley-based anti-fraud technology developer Smartsearch, ranked 86, with sales of £8.1m (56% sales growth).

The Tech Track 100 is sponsored by Hiscox, Barclays, BDO, BGF and N+1 Singer, and compiled by Fast Track, the Oxford-based research and networking events firm.

Bob Thaker, Chief Executive of Hiscox UK, said: “Tech companies have once again proved their mettle as they continue to power up growth and innovation. Hats off to all the companies that have made it onto this year’s Tech Track 100.”

The full league table is published as a 10-page supplement within the business section of The Sunday Times on 8 September, both in print and in the digital edition, and on www.fasttrack.co.uk
