Serious incident closes M1 northbound

Drivers have been advised to find alternative routes this morning following a serious incident that has closed the northbound M1 in West Yorkshire.

The northbound carriageway is closed between junctions 38 (Huddersfield) and 39 (Wakefield) after a HGV overturned following an earlier collision with a car.

The HGV was fully laden with glass bottles that have had to be unloaded and the vehicle is in the process of being recovered. Work is ongoing to clear up diesel that has spilled across all three carriageway lanes, with repairs to the central reservation also required.

Traffic is being diverted via the ‘hollow square’ diversion symbol.
