People: New Chief Financial Officer taken on; Director recruited for due diligence team; Finance Director joins electronics firm; and more

Bibby Financial Services, (BFS) which has a base in Leeds, has appointed Theo Chatha as Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to joining BFS, he spent eleven years with Close Brothers, holding a variety of executive roles across its banking, property finance, and asset finance and leasing divisions.

Most recently, he held the role of Bank Finance Director, overseeing the finance function reporting to the Banking Division Managing Director and Group Finance Director.

Reporting to Global Chief Executive, David Postings, Chatha will join the BFS Global Executive Committee and Board. He will oversee operational finance, financial control, and financial planning and analysis.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: “BFS is an extremely forward-looking organisation with clients and colleagues at the heart of what it does. I’m delighted to join BFS at such an important time in its growth strategy and look forward to working closely with the Global Board and colleagues across the business to achieve BFS’s next stage of growth.”

Joining the business at the start of September, Chatha succeeds Global Finance Director, Stephen Rose, who leaves BFS on 30 September after six years.

BFS supports more than 10,500 SMEs worldwide across invoice finance, foreign exchange and asset finance solutions. In January 2019, the funder announced the launch of its start-up insurance business, Coverly.

Leeds-based audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has appointed Rowan Porter as a Director in its growing financial due diligence practice across the North.

He brings over 13 years’ corporate finance experience, following his previous role at Grant Thornton. He brings particular expertise in buy and sell side financial due diligence projects, including corporate transactions, private equity and debt finance. He has advised on transactions across a number of sectors including technology, manufacturing, and service providers.

Stephen Green who, along with Rob McCarthy, co-leads RSM’s financial due diligence team in the North, said: “As a prominent professional in the market, Rowan has a wealth of experience, specialist technical and commercial expertise that will continue to enhance our due diligence offering in the North.

In his new role, Porter will work closely with Green and McCarthy to support acquisitive businesses and funding institutions with strategic regional, national and international transactions.

The move follows a busy period for the team acting on a range of significant regional deals working with a number of leading private equity funds including Key Capital Partners, NorthEdge Capital, Growth Capital Partners. It has also been involved with specific deals, acting for Mobeus Equity Partners on the MBO of Star Brands; supporting Newley Weds Inc on its acquisition of Jigsaw Foods; and acting for Kartell UK’s acquisition of Just Trays.

Electronics manufacturer Daletech has said that Viv Parry will be joining its board as Finance Director to help deliver the business’s high growth strategy.

The company is currently in the middle of a development project at its facility in Pudsey. It has seen a 60% growth in revenue and continues to increase its customer base throughout the UK.

Parry will add a new dimension to Daletech’s board as not only has she a proven track record as a Finance Director in board advisory roles across a variety of sectors, she also has hands on experience of running an SME as she founded a food manufacturing company in 2004. She grew this venture from a team of four to 32 and from a turnover of £100,000 to £1.6m.

She qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Newcastle, and then expanded her corporate experience as an audit manager with PwC. She has also completed the Goldman Sachs 10kSB programme and has become a mentor on the NatWest Accelerator programme.

Daletech’s Managing Director Tracey Dawson was introduced to Parry via the NatWest Accelerator programme and immediately recognised the value she could bring to the Board of Directors, including her diversity and wealth of knowledge. Her remit is to ensure that Daletech is saleable and sustainable.

Dawson said: “We are very excited to welcome Viv, who will strengthen our approach and enrich our long-term strategy.”

Lyndsey Shaw has been appointed Corporate Finance Director at Brown Butler, an independent firm of chartered accountants in Leeds, as it strengthens its team in its centenary year.

With a strong reputation in the Yorkshire deals market, having been a Partner at Sterling Corporate Finance, Shaw brings with her a raft of experience as lead advisor on disposals, acquisition, MBOs and joint ventures.

She said: “I am very excited to join a well-established firm that has such a strong client base and an excellent reputation in the market. I’m looking forward to bringing my transactional experience to Brown Butler’s exceptional client base, working with the rest of their corporate finance team here in Leeds.”

The firm is currently celebrating its 100th anniversary with a variety of events that have included launching a specially brewed beer and raising funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, for which they are on the way to raising over £5,000.
