My Yorkshire: Mark Manning, Managing Director of Manning Stainton

Mark Manning is the Managing Director of estate agent chain Manning Stainton.

Where do you live/where are you from?

I’m from north Leeds and have lived in the area all my life (apart from when I was at university).

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

There are so many amazing places to visit, but for me there is nothing better than escaping to the countryside when the weather is nice. Long walks along the river at Bolton Abbey and visiting Brimham Rocks are so much fun with the kids.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

I’ve never done the Yorkshire Three Peaks, so that’s definitely on my list.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

I have amazing childhood memories of visiting the old Linton Springs on special family occasions and having a proper Sunday lunch that was delicious, but sadly, it doesn’t exist anymore. I also absolutely love the 3 Acres Inn at Emley Moor Top.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

I definitely say it how it is, which I think is a trait most Yorkshire folk have! We don’t tend to mince our words.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

If Yorkshire had been a country, we would have finished 12th in the 2012 London Olympics.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

The Yorkshire Pudding, obviously.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

When Leeds United was relegated from the Premier League all those years ago. It was a really sad day for the city and the region.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

I honestly can’t think of anything. Everything about Yorkshire’s is brilliant!

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

Its airports! Don’t get me wrong, there are good points about Leeds Bradford Airport. But there’s nothing worse than climbing down the airplane steps into the freezing cold after a holiday in the sun, walking to the terminal and then waiting to clear the smallest passport control and baggage reclaim areas known to man.
