£2m turnover property company poised for further growth and another acquisition
A Leeds-based property company which has marked its 160th anniversary is aiming to increase its £2m turnover by 10% in the next financial year.
Adair Paxton, which is wholly owned by seven directors, employs a team of 30. It has acquired two other companies during the last 10 years and intends to announce another acquisition before the end of the year.
The firm marked its 160 years of trading with a celebration at Leeds Corn Exchange.
Director Simon Dalingwater said: “Established in 1859, our business has been at the heart of Leeds’s property market for so many years. Leeds Corn Exchange, which is symbolic within the city, and opened just four years after our business launched, was the perfect venue to host this significant anniversary celebration, with more than 150 respected members of the region’s property community attending.
“Our firm actually manages the impressive building for its owner, Rushbond, and we were delighted to welcome so many people from our industry to share in our successes in such an impressive setting.”
Adair Paxton also manages Thornton’s Arcade, which is the oldest covered shopping street in Leeds, Carlton Mills Trading Estate in Armley and Roundhouse Business Park, on the outskirts of Leeds City Centre, alongside a host of residential schemes including Concord Street – a development of 171 apartments in the sought-after Northern Quarter.
Its estate agency division is also selling 120 of these apartments and has just been appointed to market Spenfield Court on Otley Road in Far Headingley, which includes the newly renovated Spenfield House, with seven contemporary townhouses, all set within the grounds of the Grade II* listed Victorian mansion.
Director Nicola Thompson added: “The residential agency side of our business has gone from strength to strength over the last few years.
“We are now the go to agency for large scale apartment developers and regularly win contracts from the national agencies, alongside our traditional work selling homes from our three branches in Horsforth, Leeds City Centre and Adel.”
Director Bruce Collinson said: “Our business is unique, as we are large enough to manage the big contracts, but small enough to make sure everything we do is director-led, and in safe hands.
“Our personal touch, professional teams and long-standing experience in Leeds has meant we are also able to specialise in niche areas of the market, and over the years, we have expanded outside of Leeds, with clients from across the UK.
