£20m turnover manufacturer falls into administration

A manufacturer employing 80 people which has operated since 1972 has entered administration.

Sarah O’Toole and Jason Bell of Grant Thornton UK were appointed joint administrators to Bawtry Carbon International on 17 September.

The company, which is based in Austerfield, Doncaster, makes consumable carbon-based products for use in aluminium smelting and has an international customer base.

Sarah O’Toole, Advisory Partner at Grant Thornton UK, said: “Despite a strong recent trading performance, the business has been experiencing significant cash and creditor pressure over a number of weeks resulting in our appointment as joint administrators.

“It is very early days and we are urgently assessing the position with regards to the business. We are hopeful that the business can be rescued as a going concern and we would request any parties that may have an interest in buying the operations to urgently contact ourselves in order to rapidly explore that interest.

“There are no redundancies at this point and we will continue to keep the position under review.”
