Final push for support for £14.2m investment in city centre

Leeds Business Improvement District (LeedsBID) is asking businesses to endorse its ambitious plans to invest £14.2m back into the city centre.

Following last month’s launch of LeedsBID’s Business Plan 2020-2025 – The Next Chapter, detailing its plans, projects and initiatives to continue transforming Leeds city centre, businesses are being issued with blue ballot papers and are being asked to positively endorse a second term of activity by voting “Yes”.

The renewal vote gives businesses located in LS1 and LS2 from all sectors across the city centre the opportunity to support the work of LeedsBID in implementing ideas and investment to improving Leeds for the better.

Established in April 2015, LeedsBID is the largest Business Improvement District outside of London and has delivered events and activities which have transformed the city centre over the course of the last five years.

Introducing a diverse range of initiatives, from landmark events such as Leeds International Festival, MOBOs and the ARIAS to esteemed Welcome Ambassadors and Street Rangers, LeedsBID has provided a cleaner, safer and friendlier welcome to Leeds.

Following an event at City Varieties Music Hall, which saw over 300 delegates join the LeedsBID team for the official launch of their 2020 – 2025 Business Plan, levy payers are now being asked to support LeedsBID in its final push towards a Term Two.

With plans to support a rapidly growing city, the Business Plan has five core themes: Ambition; Curation; Animation; Collaboration; and Innovation, and will see £14.2m investment from businesses who pay the levy, alongside in kind support and additional grants, directly invested back into the city over the next five years.

Andrew Cooper, Chief Executive of LeedsBID said: “With one of our main themes for the 2020 – 2025 term being Collaboration, we want to take the opportunity to thank our valued levy paying businesses and key city partners who have come together to help us deliver highly beneficial work for Leeds.

“LeedsBID is making a real difference, resulting in visible improvements to Leeds city centre and over the next five years, we are committed to continuing to develop our projects and initiatives.

“We are asking businesses to positively endorse our Business Plan, The Next Chapter 2020-2025 by voting to continue this investment into Leeds as we carry on transforming this city together.”

Blue ballot papers are being issued to levy payers by post on 10 October and are expected to arrive from 11 October 2019 onwards. The voting period will run from 10 October to 7 November 2019, at which time votes will be counted and results will be announced on 8 November 2019.
