A complex of old mill properties in Bradford could be converted into 112 apartments if planners approve.
Proposals have been submitted for Garden Mills and Junction Mills, which are in Thornton Road and were previously part of Bradford College.
The applicant, Madison Investments, says the plans would breathe fresh life into the site, which is no longer required by the college.
If the scheme goes ahead, Garden Mills would be turned into 70 apartments, while Junction Mills would become 42 apartments.
A statement provided with the application explains: “The concept is to raise the profile and standard of design to form luxury residential apartments that can be leased to both the public sectors and students that are eco-friendly, efficient and sustainable.
“The refurbishment will promote regeneration and promote employment.”
The statement notes that ‘for sale’ signs have been displayed outside Garden Mills and Junction Mills for at least a couple of years, but little interest has been shown in the properties.
It explains: “This is mainly due to old Victorian buildings having awkward sizes and shapes. Therefore the change of use of Garden Mills and Junction Mills would not be viable to continue as commercial/office use.”
The applicant adds that if nothing is done the site will fall into further disrepair, while a successful residential conversion will add vitality to the surrounding area.
