Town’s road improvements scheme to begin next month

Road resurfacing work is to be carried out in two Goole town centre streets next month as part of a £150,000 improvement scheme.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council will carry out resurfacing work in Stanhope Street and around the mini-roundabout at the junction of Edinburgh Street and Government Street.

The work is due to start on Monday 18 November with the resurfacing of the mini-roundabout.

The work at the mini roundabout is expected to take one week to complete and will be carried out between the hours of 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday.

During that time Government Street will be closed and traffic will be diverted via Edinburgh Street, Burlington Crescent and Stanley Street.

The council will undertake some minor footpath improvements before the resurfacing starts, under temporary traffic management.

Work is due to start on Monday 25 November on the resurfacing of Stanhope Street between Lower Bridge Street and the Clock Tower Roundabout.

The scheme is expected to take 10 days to complete with all work carried out at night between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

Stanhope Street will be closed to through-traffic during the works, with a signed diversion in place via Normandy Way, Anderson Road, Rawcliffe Road, Boothferry Road, Edinburgh Street, Burlington Crescent, Carlisle Street.

Some minor drainage works will be carried out in preparation, under temporary traffic management, starting this week.

The work will be carried out by the council’s own street scene services team.

“We’d also like to thank Associated British Ports as we have been working with them to minimise HGV traffic using the port overnight while we carry out the work to resurface Stanhope Street.”
