Traffic Alert: Serious accident causing long delays on A1

The A1 is currently closed between the B6474 (south) and the B6474 (north) near Wentbridge with delays of at least 30 minutes covering several miles of the northbound carriageway.

This closure is due to a serious road traffic collision. Emergency services including West Yorkshire Police are in attendance.

Road users are advised to expect disruption and to allow extra journey time. They may wish to consider alternative routes or to delay your journey.

Diversion route details and guidance is as follows: Road users are advised to follow the hollow black square diversion symbol on road signs. Exit the A1 using Barnsdale Bar junction off-slip road and proceed to the A639.

At the junction merge onto A639 and proceed along this road for approximately six miles to the junction with the A645. At the junction, turn right onto A645 and proceed along this road for approximately two miles to the junction with the A162 southbound on-slip road.

At the junction, turn left onto the on-slip road and merge with the A162 southbound. Proceed along this road for approximately 500m to the junction with the M62 (J33). At this junction exit the A162 using the off-slip road and proceed to the end of the slip road.

At the roundabout, motorists should use motorway signage to travel Eastbound or Westbound on M62 (or Northbound on A1(M) via M62 West).
