A new business centre capable of accommodating up to 85 full-time staff could be built in Beverley, if planners agree.

An application for the facility at Grovehill Road has been submitted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The property would include 16 office units and 14 light industrial spaces. If approved, the centre would partly replace the existing business centre in nearby Annie Reed Road.

The two-storey, 27,555 sq ft building would have a 121-space car park.

A statement submitted as part of the application explains: “The new Business Centre will provide a landmark building offering superior facilities for new and existing businesses.

“The proposed development will regenerate an existing demolition site and also encourage investment from further afield.

“In addition, the development is sympathetic to the adjacent housing while still providing an appropriate statement at the demarcation between residential and commercial land use.

“The proposals are deemed to be an appropriate and valuable asset for Beverley and the surrounding area.”

A variety of unit sizes will be available in the building and a conference room with an area of approximately 947 sq ft will also be available for hire.

The expected occupancy for the entire property would be 135 people, including 85 building users under normal conditions, with the potential for an additional 50 when the conference room is in use.

The land intended for the centre is a brownfield site, about 1.2 miles east of Beverley Minster. The site is owned by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and was previously occupied by the County Council Engineering Depot and Ambulance Station.

The project is being part funded through East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) capital, Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and the European Regional Development Fund (EDRF).
